This week, MAB President and CEO, Casey Jones, visited all 15 congressional offices in D.C. and delivered the message that, “a cut to CPB funding is a cut to local communities.” This isn’t about NPR or PBS on the national level. It’s about real people in Michigan communities losing the local news, emergency alerts, and educational programming they trust. A new executive order directs CPB to cut off federal support to public broadcasting by June 30. A formal $1.1B rescission package is expected soon. If we wait until it hits the floor, it’s already too late. “This isn’t a partisan fight, it’s about whether your community has access to trusted information when it matters most,” Jones said. Even if you’re not in public media — this is a First Amendment issue. If local voices go silent, who fills the gap? Contact your representatives now.
