This is the molt of a Costa Rican Stripe Knee (Aphonopelma seemanni) - Now for the big gender reveal... It's a BOY!!! Photo 1 shows no spermatheca or sperm sac present. Thus the gender is male. Photo 2 shows the fangs of the tarantula - All body parts are present in the molt. Despite many reports - tarantulas DO NOT slurp up food through their fangs. Their fangs are used to subdue prey with venom and for assistance in shredding larger meals. Photo 3 is a clear picture of the tarantulas 4 lungs. They're referred to as Book Lungs because they are a series of thin, leaf-like membranes (lamellae) arranged in a stack, like the pages of a book.
