Programs at the state’s 15 community colleges are receiving extra support from a new, $9.7 million state infusion to the Massachusetts’ Community College Nursing Grant. State officials hope the funding will make it easier to train the people who can help alleviate the state’s health care workforce shortages. “By creating more opportunities for equitable access to high demand fields, we can grow the health care workforce at a rate that meets the needs of Massachusetts residents,” Education Secretary Patrick Tutwiler said. The Trump administration is following through on threats to terminate $2.7 billion dollars in federal grants and other funding for Harvard University. Hundreds of researchers at Harvard Medical School and the T.H. Chan School of Public Health opened emails this week that said funding was eliminated for research across a host of areas, from the origins of breast cancer and the impact of nutrition on fertility to antibiotic resistance.
