Today is World Endangered Species Day and we need your help! The Endangered Species Act is in Danger! The current administration has proposed rule changes that would significantly weaken habitat protections for endangered species by redefining "harm" under the Endangered Species Act. This means that destroying the habitat for endangered species would no longer be considered "harm" and thus wouldn't be regulated under the ESA. Habitat loss is the leading cause of species extinction. And Conservation groups and scientists would have fewer ways to stop harmful projects, because habitat loss wouldn’t be enforceable under ESA regulations. You have a chance to voice your concern about the impact this has on endangered species including whales, specifically the North Atlantic Right whale with less than 380 whales remaining. NOAA and FWS are accepting comments from the public until Midnight on May 19th. Please tell them to not weaken the Endangered Species Act and remind them that a strong EPA not only helps whales but protecting their habitat is essential to their recovery and survival.
