Valley Outreach Synagogue

Valley Outreach Synagogue is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit organization located in Calabasas, California. Founded in 1986, it operates as a liberal Jewish community with a mission to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for individuals of all backgrounds.

History and Mission

The synagogue was established with the vision of Rabbi Richard Schachet, who aimed to create a space that would welcome everyone, regardless of their Jewish knowledge or financial means. This vision has continued to guide the synagogue's activities and community engagement.

Programs and Services

Valley Outreach Synagogue offers a range of programs and services, including:

• Education: The synagogue provides Jewish education, focusing on lifelong learning and community engagement. It has a unique home-based education model where children attend classes in host homes. Under the leadership of Carla Adivi, Director of Lifelong Learning, the synagogue has successfully adapted its programs to online formats, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Community Engagement: The synagogue fosters a vibrant, inclusive community that encourages interfaith dialogue and participation in various cultural and religious events.

Leadership

Rabbi Ron Li-Paz has been the Senior Rabbi since 1996. Prior to his role in the synagogue, Rabbi Li-Paz served in the United States Air Force and later worked in theater, television, and management consulting. He is also involved in interfaith initiatives and serves on the board of the Center for Interreligious Understanding. Rabbi Julie Rosenson is the Associate Rabbi, who will be fully ordained in 2025.
