Our soon-to-open FAAS Animal Medical Services & Training (FAMST) Campus had some very impressive veterinary visitors yesterday. They came to check out this innovative new model of rapidly deployed, relatively inexpensive spay/neuter medical center. Joining FAAS's medical director, Dr.. Katherine Mills, and our new veterinarian, Dr. Marica Patchett: From UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program Dr. Kate Hurley, Program Director Dr. Cindy Karsten, Director of Outreach Dr. Denae Wagner, Facility Design Veterinarian From UC Davis One Health Institute Dr. Emily McCobb, Petsmart Charities Endowed Chair in Accessible Veterinary Care FAAS CEO John Lipp led everyone through the facility, with help from Leslie Denham, project manager, of Sustainable Urban Neighborhoods. FAAS Veterinary Social Worker Raquel Bernaldo also got a front-row seat the the progress. As you can tell by the pics, everyone was excited to see the progress. This groudbreaking campus will be able to perform some 9,000 spay/neuter surgeries once up and running, and will serve not only our animals but those of other shelters and eventually, the community. It serves as a model of what other shelters and communities can do to help end the spay/neuter crisis. We're still about $400,000 away from our goal to make the campus a reality. A gentle hop right into your lap for serious cuddles – his absolute favorite place. He's just starting to explore toys, but don't let his newbie status fool you; those instincts make him an adorable opponent in tug-of-war. He's super chill, but watch out for those zoomies – he is still a puppy, after all! Fernandez is a quick study, soaking up guidance like a sponge.
