Voluntary Associations for Senior Citizens Activities, Inc.
VASCA, founded in 1959, is directed at an underserved population, the low-income senior citizens of New York City. Each year, working in concert with other NYC-elder serving agencies, VASCA sends hundreds of seniors to camps in the country. Here, they have the opportunity to socialize with their peers, eat healthy meals, and participate in educational and recreational activities. For these seniors, camp is a place to relax, and get away from the pressures living in New York City, as a low-income senior, if only for one to two weeks.
