Merlyn was enrolled in our home-based alternatives to incarceration program, JusticeHome, before becoming a case manager for the very same program that changed her life. Her story is a testament to the work we do and how believing in women, giving them resources and opportunities instead of sentences, leads to brighter futures. At WPA, we want our JusticeHome participants to maintain their everyday lives, without getting summoned away from their kids, their job, or their home. We advocate on behalf of our clients in court before judges and prosecutors, helping them get their charges reduced from felonies to misdemeanors, and in some cases, having these charges completely dismissed. That means less women are incarcerated. Less mothers separated from their children. And more freedoms, more opportunities, more chances to build a future. Alternatives to incarceration are an essential tool to reducing incarceration. Through our ATI program, JusticeHome, WPA has witnessed firsthand how ATI programs set people up for success.
