On his fourth birthday, Korban took his first flight in a Cessna over the Santa Barbara coastline. Since then, he’s flown in a different plane on each of his birthdays, from Piper Cubs to experimental jets. In high school, Korban was a pro mountain biker. However, after breaking his collarbone, he sold his bike and used the money to fund flight school. “That was the best trade I’ve ever made.” Now with his private pilot’s license, Korban is working toward his instrument rating. During a 350-mile flight, his alternator failed midair with just 30 minutes of battery life and no visual references. Korban calmly navigated back to safety. Korban is set on being an Airline Transport Pilot after flying a Gulfstream G650 with his mentor. He’s on track to graduate this fall with a Commercial Flight degree and plans to pursue his A&P certification next. Korban plans to continue volunteering with Aviation Explorers Post and EAA’s Young Eagles program, helping to build aircraft and mentor student pilots coming up behind him. #workethic #scholarship #aviation (fb)
