A woman was taken away to a nursing home, and the neighbors discovered that when the pool was drained, a turtle was in there and could not get out. They took my advice and attempted to create a ramp, but unfortunately, with the drained pool, it was still a bit too steep for the turtle to use. So, instead, she was actually using it for shade and shelter, as our days have been very hot. I was able to make the trip out there and very easily and carefully pick her up from her shaded bungalow and gave her a lift to the nearby lake just around the corner. Not every case is a fresh one! Sometimes, that can be a problem, but in this case, there was nothing more we could do since it's fully healed and at least a year old injury, probably from a car. The 2 main fracture points are right where the spine begins to taper into either neck or tail vertebrae, so this was a very near miss. Any closer to the center, and it could have been a whole different story! Aside from that, look how the body healed from the inside out, firming up with scar tissue to fill voids. Hopefully, this home owner can continue to watch this tortoises progress over the next couple of years.
