mParks

mParks, also known as the Michigan Recreation & Parks Association, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the parks and recreation community in Michigan.

Mission and Purpose

mParks is committed to proving that parks and recreation matter, improving quality of life, and contributing significantly to the economy. The organization serves as the voice of Michigan's parks and recreation community, providing advocacy, resources, and professional development opportunities for park and recreation agencies across the state.

Activities and Programs

• Advocacy and Resources: mParks works to support the interests of its diverse membership by offering resources and advocacy for park and recreation agencies. This includes legislative advocacy to ensure policies support community recreation and environmental conservation.
• Professional Development: The organization provides opportunities for education and professional growth, enhancing the skills and knowledge of recreation professionals. This includes training, workshops, and networking events.
• Community Engagement: mParks fosters community engagement by promoting outdoor recreation and enhancing access to natural resources. This aligns with the broader mission of enriching community life through recreation.

mParks Foundation

The mParks Foundation, established in 2002, is a key part of mParks' broader efforts. It focuses on three main areas:

• Access for All: Increasing access to outdoor experiences for people of all ages and abilities, particularly through funding for adaptive equipment and innovative projects.
• Leadership Development: Offering scholarships and professional development opportunities to support emerging professionals in the field.
• Vision & Recognition: Recognizing excellence in community parks and recreation initiatives through awards like the Hall of Fame and Accessible by Design Awards.

mParks is governed by a board of directors who oversee the strategic direction and operations of the organization. The board includes professionals from various backgrounds, ensuring diverse perspectives in decision-making processes.
