On Friday, May 2, the future of the arts in America was dealt a devastating blow. In an abrupt and sweeping decision, the current administration rescinded all pending and existing grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)—including awards already approved and contracted. Orchestra Miami was one of the groups impacted by this action- our Challenge America grant for the Too Hot to Handel project was withdrawn.n addition to the loss of the NEA Grant, we know that there will be no money forthcoming from the State of Florida (normally we receive up to $40,000 a year) and we hear from very reliable sources that our annual grant from Miami-Dade County will also be reduced in the next fiscal year. In response to this crisis, we are calling on our community to join the Friends of Orchestra Miami—our growing circle of individual donors who make our work possible.
