Ohio Auctioneers Association

The Ohio Auctioneers Association (OAA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and elevating the auction profession in Ohio. It aims to foster good fellowship, cultivate harmony among auctioneers, and discuss matters of common interest within the industry.

Purpose

The OAA's primary objectives include:

• Promoting the Auction Profession: The association works to enhance the professional image of auctioneers by sponsoring seminars and educational meetings that benefit both members and their clients.
• Legislative Advocacy: The OAA assists in securing proper legislation for the betterment of the auction industry. It keeps members informed about pending laws, rules, and regulations and provides tools for advocacy efforts.

Membership and Governance

The OAA offers various membership categories, including Life Members and Auction Professionals. Life Members are entitled to all privileges of the association and may be elected to the Board of Directors. Auction Professionals, on the other hand, are not voting members and cannot hold office within the organization.

The association holds annual meetings and may convene additional meetings throughout the year. Voting is reserved for non-suspended members, who can participate through various methods, including printed ballots and absentee voting.

Leadership

Recent leadership appointments include the election of John P. Ruckman as Treasurer, who brings significant experience in auctioneering and business management to the role. As Treasurer, Ruckman is responsible for ensuring sound financial practices and guiding the association's strategic initiatives.

Advocacy Efforts

The OAA has achieved several notable successes in legislative advocacy. For example, it supported the passage of HB 321, which updated auction laws in Ohio. The association also works with a lobbyist to represent the industry's interests at the state capitol.
