Yesterday we were all out for May Day✊🏽✊🏽 A little May Day History: In May 1886, workers in Chicago staged direct actions like strikes and protests. They were suppressed by police, but as a result, won the 8-hour workday. May Day is a day we honor our experience and struggle as working people, and the legacy of the workers who fought for things like an 8-hour workday. CPA has been organizing workers and empowering immigrant communities to fight for workers’ rights for over 5 decades. We are rising up because our lives, our families, our public schools, and our health care are worth fighting for. Our members recently met in Chinatown and Excelsior to learn about how the federal budget impacts them, such as Trump’s cuts to Medi-Cal and food stamps, which many of us rely on! We kicked off the meeting by placing dots on a board to show who benefits from these vital programs. Then, over the weekend, our members, Activists, and staff joined thousands for the “Hands Off!” rally to show our support for healthcare, education, immigrants, and working families!
