Catharsis.Excellence in professional theatre in the greater Penobscot Bay region.Its mission is to present high quality, creative and engaging theatre for people from all age groups living in mid-coast Maine through the efforts of a corps of professional actors, designers and directors who live and work in Maine, while seeking to collaborate with local community and non-profit arts organizations to increase accessibility to the widest possible audience. ca•thar•sis (/kəˈTHärsis/): purification or purgation of the emotions (as pity and fear) primarily through art.What we doThe Everyman Repertory Theatre aims to broaden its talent base by employing Maine-based professional theatre practitioners and interns who are aspiring theatre artists. It seeks to enlarge its audience through collaboration with local community and non-profit arts organizations. Our primary audience is made up of Knox, Waldo and Lincoln county residents, both full-year and partial, as well as visitors in the summer and fall. We provide an annual season of professionally mounted plays, as well as contribute to the Creative Economy in Maine in a number of ways. First, we provide employment for Maine-based theatre professionals who would otherwise have to seek work elsewhere and we employ and train interns from both high school and college giving them valuable job experience in their home state. Second, we work closely with other arts non-profits in collaborative projects, including Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Farnsworth Art Museum, Bay Chamber Concerts and the Camden Public Library. Finally, we show that, even in mid-coast Maine it is possible to see high-quality, professional theatrical presentations of both classic and contemporary drama thus encouraging incoming population to the state.
