In my 30+ years of running animal-focused nonprofits, I've never had to compose a message such as this. Animal Help Now (AHNow) has earned your trust through the years with our hard work, integrity and transparency, and most importantly our proven ability to turn your support into tangible results, such as the 128,000 times our Wildlife Emergency service was accessed last year and the new free Pet Help & Rescue app that you can download from stores today. Animal Help Now is in a financial crisis. This is because we went way over budget in developing our new pet emergency evacuation app and because - while overperforming in my program work - I have underperformed in my fundraising responsibilities as executive director. You know no one here gets paid well, but we've actually reached a point where we have had to cut our already-lean staff hours in half. This is having an immediate adverse impact on our programs – our Wildlife Emergency and Wildlife Conflict services, in particular – and we need to get back to full staff capacity as quickly as possible. The good news is that our programs have a solid foundation. We have two lifesaving apps, both of which are state-of-the-art and unparalleled anywhere in the world. We have a dedicated paid staff, as well as two dozen amazing and committed volunteers. This message marks a solid turning point in my priorities. I send it with humility and full accountability. Just as you've had my unflagging promise to protect and save animal lives, you have my commitment now to steer the organization through this crisis. We have just added two professionals to our board of directors, one of whom is a senior level fundraiser for an international nonprofit. We are developing and are already implementing initial steps in a plan to get us back on solid ground. Will you please help us navigate these rough seas?
