American Century Music is dedicated to celebrating the works of 20th-century American classical composers through performance and education.The organization collaborates with a wide array of artists, ensembles, and cultural institutions in the United States and abroad, and since its founding, American Century Music has performed over 70 works by American composers such as Amy Beach, Charles Griffes, Roy Harris, Walter Piston, David Diamond, Elliott Carter, and Philip Glass in repertoire ranging from solo instrument to full orchestra. American Century Music programs have received praise from critics and audiences for their thoughtful design and high-quality performances. The Boston Musical Intelligencer wrote, "Parkman and [American Century Music] seem to understand that it isn’t about presenting modern music for the sake of its modernity, but for its musicality. Their offering…declared hope for renewed dialogue and community for American 20th-century music." While the Worcester Telegram & Gazette declared, "Let’s have ACM and programs like these in Worcester more often — this performance was a high-water mark of the local classical music scene’s current season."American Century Music has presented distinguished ensembles and soloists, including the Claremont Trio, Florestan Recital Project, Lydian String Quartet, and violinist Curtis Macomber. American Century Music has also been presented by leading cultural institutions including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Worcester and St. Louis Art Museums, and the Rhode Island School of Design. Mr. Parkman has also led orchestras in American Century Music repertoire in Australia, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and in June 2013 during a two-week residency at the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute.American Century Music's education and outreach initiatives include an ongoing collaboration of free programs with the Boston Public Library, ACM Radio, a streaming Internet radio station playing commercially available recordings of American composers, and informative essays pulling together historical research, interviews, and events related to the 20th Century.
