Abstraction Made Elementary Inc
We all grew up knowing what a fireman or a policewoman is, but not all of us know who an artist is or does every day in our highly creative and visual culture. AME seeks to bridge that gap by teaching children who an artist is and what contemporary art can be while encouraging their own creative risk-taking, critical thinking, and spontaneity through personal, hands-on art making projects. Children are introduced to abstract art as a formal visual art language, as an extension of children's natural early expression and aesthetics, and as a way to make progress with the National Standards for Arts Education, a public school requirement for K-12 students. We challenge what children can do and learn at a young age with public exhibitions of the abstract art they create. Through collaborative programs with children and volunteer opportunities, serious working visual artists and designers in turn are encouraged to be personally creative while connecting with a broader community outside of the studio.
