Home About the AJS The Association for Jewish Studies is a learned society and professional organization whose mission is to advance research and teaching in Jewish Studies at colleges universities and other institutions of higher learning and to foster greater understanding of Jewish Studies scholarship among the wider public. Membership With more than 1900 individual members and over 70 institutional members the AJS provides an intellectual forum for university faculty graduate students independent scholars museum and related professionalsand all those interested in the scholarly field of Jewish Studies. Annual Conference With 1200 attendees over 190 sessions a major exhibit hall with leading publishers cultural programming and a conferencewide welcome reception and plenary the AJS Conference is the largest annual gathering of Jewish Studies scholars in the world. Publications The AJSs publications are leading forums for exploring Jewish Studies scholarship and critical issues in methodology and pedagogy its peerreviewed scholarly journal AJS Review its magazine AJS Perspectives its enewsletter AJS News and its podcast Adventures in Jewish Studies.

New in the AJS Career Center: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Jewish Studies at James Madison University in the JMU Philosophy and Religion Department. The area of specialization is open. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose AOS includes study of the Hebrew Bible.

New in the AJS Career Center: 2 Postdoctoral Fellowships in Middle Eastern History at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). These fellowships are full-time, 2-year appointments beginning in July 2026. They seek outstanding junior scholars whose research engages Arab and/or Jewish History in the Middle East and North Africa, in any time period, and have a particular interest in scholars working on Palestinian and/or Israeli history or the history of Jewish-Muslim relations.
