Syria’s digital future is the backbone of any real recovery! For years, the ICT infrastructure in Syria was weaponized — a tool for surveillance, censorship, and control under Al-Assad’s regime. Activists were silenced. Access was blocked. Lives were lost. Now, with the fall of the regime in 2024 and the U.S. and EU plans to ease sanctions, people in Syria have a chance to reclaim their digital future. But rebuilding won’t be easy. It demands action and commitment — from regulators, tech companies, and the international community. Protect freedom of expression and academic freedom! CPDP2025 singled out two panels addressing tech, surveillance, and the genocide in Gaza. The panels were asked to remove the word ‘genocide’ from titles and descriptions, and were marked with disclaimers, not applied to any other sessions. This is discriminatory and dangerous.
