Carlos Simon’s Motherboxx Connection is a bold and inspiring work that draws on the Afrofuturist artistry of Black Kirby—a creative duo whose visual series In Search of the MotherBoxx Connection asks, “Where are all the Black people in comics. ” Blending ancient traditions with futuristic imagination, Black Kirby reimagines Black identity through powerful, heroic figures. Simon brings that vision to life in sound, crafting a majestic, fanfare-like motif that surges through the orchestra with strength and confidence.
