East Coast Professional Baseball Showcase
The East Coast Professional Baseball Showcase, commonly referred to as the East Coast Pro Showcase (ECPS), is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a premier platform for top high school baseball players from the Eastern United States. Established in 1995 by MLB scouts, the organization aims to evaluate and educate prospective baseball players and their families on opportunities available in professional baseball.
Purpose and Events
The showcase serves as an annual event where scouts from every Major League Baseball (MLB) organization gather to observe and assess the skills of talented prep players. The event is designed to be a professional setting for these young athletes, offering both games and educational seminars that detail what professional baseball entails at its highest level. Typically, the showcase lasts for four days and includes both game-style situations and individual workouts.
Impact on the MLB Draft
The East Coast Pro Showcase has a significant impact on the MLB draft. Annually, between 80 and 110 players from the event are selected in the MLB Rule 4 Draft, highlighting its effectiveness as a talent identification platform. This success rate underscores its importance as a scouting ground for MLB teams seeking top prospects.
Non-Profit Activities
Proceeds from the showcase are directed into a fund that supports MLB scouts, both active and retired, who are in need of financial assistance. Additionally, the organization aids scouting associations based on the East Coast, contributing to the development of baseball scouting in the region.
Locations and Participation
The event is held at the Hoover Met Complex in Hoover, Alabama. Scouts form teams from regions across the Eastern half of the United States, bringing together players considered to be among the best in their area. This regional approach helps in providing a broad spectrum of talent exposure to MLB scouts.
Recognition
Alongside events like the Area Code Games, the East Coast Pro Showcase is recognized as one of the top summer showcase events for incoming high school seniors and other prep players. It attracts top prospects who seek to enhance their visibility among college recruiters and professional scouts.
Community Engagement
Through its games and seminars, the organization fosters a connection between professional baseball personnel and emerging talent, helping young players understand the opportunities available to them at the professional level. This exchange not only benefits the players but also supports the broader baseball community by fostering talent development.
