🎶 Music Month Spotlight: Lauryn Hill 🎤 “Don’t be a hard rock when you really are a gem.” – Lauryn Hill This Music Month, we honor Lauryn Hill—a voice of truth, resistance, and unmatched talent. Hill rose to fame with The Fugees and made history with her solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), earning 5 Grammy Awards in one night—an unheard-of achievement for a Black woman at the time. But Lauryn’s journey was not without injustice.🎙️ Despite her success, Lauryn faced intense scrutiny, industry pressure, and media backlash not uncommon for Black women who speak boldly and live freely. Her choice to step away from fame and industry control was met with criticism rather than compassion. She called out exploitation, racism, and the music industry’s treatment of Black creatives long before it was mainstream to do so. ✨ Hill’s music remains a blueprint for liberation, truth-telling, and healing in a world that too often tries to silence Black women. We see her. We honor her. We carry her words with us. What’s your favorite hit by Lauryn Hill? #MusicMonth #LaurynHill #BlackMusicMatters #TheMiseducation #BlackWomenInMusic #JusticeThroughArt #laurynhill #cflj #thecenterforlawandjustice #TheCenterForLawAndJustice (fb)
