Marshfield Clinic Health System is proud to offer patients access to a groundbreaking new technology that improves the early detection and diagnosis of lung cancer. The Galaxy System, a robotic bronchoscopy platform, is now available at Marshfield Medical Center, the first facility in Wisconsin to implement this cutting-edge technology by Noah Medical. “As per the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women in the United States, and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths both nationally and globally,” said Dr. Abdullah Al Twal, Marshfield Clinic pulmonary and critical care physician. The Galaxy System is a robotic bronchoscopy platform that enables physicians to navigate and biopsy lung nodules with far greater precision and accuracy than traditional methods. “Historically, it has been challenging for physicians to accurately locate and biopsy lung nodules, often delaying diagnosis and treatment. With the Galaxy System, we now have the ability to detect and treat lung cancer earlier. This technology greatly enhances our ability to improve patient outcomes and survival rates,” said Dr. Al Twal. Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy procedures will be performed by Dr. Al Twal, Dr. Delyse Garg and Dr. Rashid Ali from the pulmonary team at Marshfield Medical Center, along with Dr. Samer Kanaan, a thoracic surgeon serving both the Marshfield and Weston campuses. This technology marks the beginning of Marshfield Clinic’s initiative to establish a multidisciplinary, comprehensive lung nodule program. This effort involves collaboration across pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, anesthesia and pathology. “Together, we are committed to bringing world-class care to our patients, close to home,” said Dr. Al Twal.
