GRIMM FAMILY EDUCATION FOUNDATION
The Edible Schoolyard Kern County (ESYKC) offers hands-on learning, connecting food, the environment, and wellness. Students grow food, maintain ecosystems, and prepare nutritious meals, embracing seed-to-table education. The Grimm Family Education Foundation is committed to helping raise educational expectations and outcomes for students throughout Kern County. The Foundation has two principal areas of focus: The establishment of charter schools where children can thrive in school and close the achievement gap that exists in rural areas. The development of edible schoolyards and kitchen classrooms where students have the opportunity to develop healthy eating habits through nutrition education, school lunches and hands-on experience.In addition, the Foundation is developing long-range plans for addressing a variety of educational issues facing children and families in rural areas.
