Happy 90th Anniversary! The roots of Friedman Place go back to April 2, 1935, when our predecessor, the nonprofit Association for Jewish Blind (later known as the Kagan Home) was created. The first building was on Douglas Boulevard in Chicago and the much larger one on Foster Avenue opened in 1956. That building was closed and in 20025 the agency became Friedman Place at our current location on Maplewood Avenue, which is home to over 80 adults who are blind. A range of social services are also now provided to adults who are blind and living in their own apartments throughout Illinois. (fb)
