The 51-story 8 Bishopsgate in London is a testament to contextual design and pushing the envelope for responsible vertical urbanism. #TallTuesday Moderated by the constraints of the London View Management Framework, the building's massing ensures it does not encroach on views of St. Paul's Catedral. A stepped profile achieves this and additionally creates a visually dynamic form with terraces and cantilevers that blend with the surrounding architecture. Primarily an office building, the project allocates five percent of its area to amenity spaces, reflecting changing urban trends and includes public cafés, a restaurant and bar with a terrace, landscaped roof terraces, a flexible event space, and a free and open to the public 50th-floor viewing gallery called "The Lookout." Design decisions for the project were also driven by sustainability, and user health and well-being, and is reflected in the building achieving an EPC A rating and BREEAM Outstanding certification. The design emphasizes efficiency and tangible sustainability outcomes, reinforced through extensive community engagement and a tenant ESG brief. Social value is continually measured through a Social Value Portal, ensuring better communication with stakeholders and consistent improvements.
