𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱 When the Pharisees brought Jesus a woman caught in sin and asked what He thought should be done, He didn’t answer right away. Instead, He stooped down and began writing in the sand. That brief pause, His silence and stillness, is such a powerful example. It reminds us to take a moment before we speak, especially when we’re faced with the choice to either judge or extend grace to our spouse. Offering grace doesn't mean pretending the hurt didn’t happen. It means choosing not to let that pain dictate the future. That moment in the sand is the sacred pause between being hurt and responding. It is the space where mercy has a chance to step in. Just as Jesus bent low to write in the dirt, we too can lower ourselves, set aside pride, anger, or pain, and choose mercy. And in that, the process of healing and restoration begins. 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀: One way Emily has extended mercy to me was when I kept failing to get our tax documents together. Instead of being critical, she extended mercy and helped me gather them so we could get them in on time. 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆: James extends mercy to me when I get upset over our home being messy and stressed about getting it tidy. When I’m upset, poor behaviors like muttering and sharp comments creep up. James offers mercy when he tells me to stop cleaning and offers some type of distraction that calms me, like a hot shower or a family hike. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆. Lord, be present in the space in our marriage where we need you the most - the space where pride, anger, and pain can rear its ugly head. Send Your Spirit upon us in those moments so we can be strong enough to humble ourselves to the sand to write and to extend mercy. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲: When have you extended mercy to me? (fb)
