#OnThisDay in 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution which stated: "Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation. ” Since then, we’ve pledged allegiance to it, paraded it, and saluted it. The American flag remains a powerful symbol of patriotism, pride, and the spirit of the United States.

This Oakmont Country Club jacket belonged to Eric Springer, who, alongside his wife Cecile, became the club’s first African American members in June 1991. Eric, a noted attorney and professor of health law, and Cecile, who operated her own consulting company at the time, had applied for membership specifically for golf.
