It's #amphibianweek2025 and the protected lakes, rivers, and wetlands of South Carolina serve as a perfect habitat for almost 150 species of these special (and often colorful) creatures! Who doesn't love the sound of tree frogs on a warm summer night? 🐸🦎 Amphibians—such as frogs, toads, and salamanders—play a vital role in ecosystems as both predators and prey. Many species migrate to new habitats and breeding grounds during the spring and summer, often traveling at night. By feeding on insect pests, amphibians support agriculture, and by controlling mosquito populations, they contribute to public health. Their moist, permeable skin makes them especially sensitive to drought and pollution, making them excellent indicators of environmental health.
