✨Today is a special day for our town as we celebrate Carl Lee Day, a tribute to a Murphysboro pioneer for justice, education, and equality. Carl Lee was a trailblazer. He was among the first Black graduates from Southern Illinois Normal University. Lee retired in 1966 after almost 40 years of teaching, mainly at Douglass School in Murphysboro, where he was a teacher, principal, and mentor to many students. Also known for his generosity and kindness, he bought clothes and shoes for needy children. Carl Lee passed away in 1981, but his legacy lives on in our community. In 2020, the Town Center Park was renamed Carl Lee Park. Remember and honor this remarkable man who made a difference in our town. Happy Carl Lee Day! 🍎🎉🎇🍏 (fb)
