Penn Mont Academy

Penn Mont Academy is a non-profit, non-sectarian private educational institution located in Blair County, Pennsylvania. It is dedicated to providing a Montessori education, focusing on nurturing the unique gifts in each child, fostering independence, cooperation, and a love of learning.

History

Founded in 1961 by Aline and Gerald Wolf, the academy was initially known as Wolf Academy and operated in the Wolfs' home in Altoona. It became the first Montessori school licensed in Pennsylvania and the third in the United States. In 1962, it was renamed Penn Mont Academy, reflecting its connection to Pennsylvania and the Montessori method. Over the years, the school has grown and relocated several times, with its current main campus established in Hollidaysburg in 2001. A satellite campus was opened at Penn State Altoona in 2010.

Education and Programs

Penn Mont Academy offers educational programs for children from infancy through sixth grade. It is accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Middle States Association of College and Schools. The academy is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Academic Schools and the Pennsylvania State Department of Human Services. Beyond its regular academic year, Penn Mont Academy provides summer programs, such as Camp Montessori, and offers before and aftercare services.
