IF PIGS COULD FLY
MISSIONIf Pigs Could Fly exists to help rural Haitian families obtain someshare of resources, education, livelihood and hope for the future, by providingthem with technologies, dedicated professionals, compassionate andwell-informed visitors and responsive cohorts in Palo Alto, California andenvirons. While aware of the needsfor infrastructure, medical facilities and sustainable agriculture, weprimarily strive to build understanding, further knowledge, and encouragedreams. APPROACHIf Pigs Could Fly is anintercultural learning experiment originating as a leading of RandyMont-Reynaud, PhD, with the assistance of Palo Alto Friends Meeting. We work in Mon Bouton (or “MorneBouton”), a cluster of dwellings and their deeply impoverished inhabitants inthe southeastern Haitian mountains, totaling about 80 families, who have beenignored by both the Haitian government and nongovernmental relieforganizations. We operate by getting to know thepeople of Mon Bouton as individuals, and giving them tools for self-help andeducation matched to their needs. This small-scale niche is open to localized groups such as ours, andcould expand not by becoming a big organization, but by replication in other, equally overlooked places in the world.
