The Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials, enhancing and promoting effective State and Territorial programs since 1974. ASTSWMO, providing pathways to our Nation’s environmental stewardship since 1974. ASSOCIATION OF STATE & TERRITORIAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS' (ASTSWMO) MISSION IS TO ENHANCE AND PROMOTE EFFECTIVE STATE AND TERRITORIAL PROGRAMS FOR WASTE AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT, TO ENCOURAGE ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES AND TO AFFECT RELEVANT NATIONAL WASTE AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT POLICIES. THROUGH ITS SUBCOMMITTEES AND EXTENSIVE CONTACTS WITH ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGERS IN 50 STATES, DC AND 5 TERRITORIES (HEREINAFTER "STATES"), ASTSWMO FACILITATES STATE REVIEW AND COMMENTS ON PROPOSED REGULATIONS, POLICY AND GUIDANCE. ASTSWMO SPONSORED MEETINGS, SUCH AS THE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS AND TOPICAL MEETINGS OF INTEREST TO STATE PROGRAM PERSONNEL, AS WELL AS SUBCOMMITTEE PROJECTS WHICH HELP TO FACILITATE INFORMATION EXCHANGE AMONG STAFF FROM DIFFERENT STATES AND FROM THE EPA.
