First Occupational Center of New Jersey, Inc.
OCNJ is a multi-faceted community rehabilitation program specializing in job training, job placement and support services for people with disabilities and the economically disadvantaged. Since its founding in 1954, the agency has grown and expanded to serve a broad range of clients, including people with physical, developmental and emotional disabilities, senior citizens, displaced and injured workers, welfare recipients, former substance abusers and youth at risk. Through a network of contacts with local businesses, community-based organizations and government agencies, OCNJ places most of its clients in jobs with outside employers. However, as one of the new breed of entrepreneurial not-for-profits, OCNJ also operates its own businesses to train and employ workers. These businesses in recycling, building and landscape maintenance, micro-graphics, office temporary services, food packaging, production and assembly, currently employ some 400 workers and generate nearly 70% of the revenues needed to support OCNJ's operating budget.
