The Journey Museum Step through our doors and embark on a journey through 3 billion years of historyconnecting you with the people cultures and science behind the ancient Black Hills and prairies of Western South Dakota. Its a journey rich with stories and traditionsfrom prehistoric encounters and Native American heritage to pioneer tales and spaceflight. Each member of the family will delight in discovering a vast array of cultural artifacts and interactive experiences and leave with a connection to this unique and diverse place Lakotas fittingly called the Island in the Plains. Each September we celebrate the vital role of the arts in a well-rounded education. To join in, we’re sharing simple Art Breaks—5–15 minute, no-prep activities that spark creativity in any setting: classrooms, play dates, homeschools, or everyday learning spaces. Designed for ages 2 and up, they’re perfect as quick transitions, energy resets, or sparks of inspiration—small, joyful pauses that nurture connection, expression, and imagination wherever learning happens.
