Child Care Council, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of child care in the United States. It primarily serves Monroe, Livingston, and Wayne counties in New York.

History

Founded in 1972 as the Western New York Child Care Council, the organization was incorporated in 1974. Over the years, it has expanded its services and become one of the leading child care resource and referral agencies in the country, recognized by the Child Care Aware national accreditation.

Mission and Services

The Child Care Council's mission is to provide comprehensive resources, support, and services for child care providers and families. The organization aims to improve the lives of children and strengthen families through knowledge and integrity, driven by a commitment to equity and valuing diversity, inclusion, and the importance of every individual.

Programs and Resources

• Parent and Family Support: The organization offers free referrals and invaluable information to help parents make informed decisions about child care. It also provides customized referrals for children with developmental disabilities.
• Provider and Educator Training: The Council provides unmatched training and education programs for child care providers and early childhood educators. These include courses on the Pyramid Model, an evidence-based framework for promoting young children’s social, emotional, and behavioral health development. Additionally, it offers Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation services to equip caregivers with strategies and supports.
• Business and Entrepreneurial Support: The Council supports entrepreneurs interested in starting their own child care businesses, offering guidance from experienced staff members. It also provides coordinated services such as professional library resources, notary public services, and reduced-cost printing and business services.
• Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP): As a CACFP contractor, the Council assists in providing nutrition education and reimbursement for meals served in family and group family child care homes.

Leadership and Impact

Jeff Pier serves as the current CEO, leading the organization through strategic expansions and partnerships, particularly during the global pandemic. The Council has grown significantly since its inception, evolving into a key resource for the community by fostering a supportive environment for both children and caregivers.
