ASAP works with San Luis Obispo County Animal Services to reduce unnecessary euthanasia at the county animal shelter. Animal Shelter Adoption Partners was founded in 2001 as an extension of our production of Rescue Me!, a television program that featured every animal at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Shelter. Our mission is to reduce unnecessary euthanasia, primarily through increased adoptions and redemptions of animals at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Shelter. Our programs have led to significant increases in adoptions and redemptions from the county shelter, thus fewer animals are euthanized for space. We also coordinate foster programs and an interim housing/adoption program at a local kennel to address temporary shelter overcrowding. The San Luis Obispo County Animal Shelter continues to have one of the lowest rates of euthanasia in the US.
