The Prairie Club
The Prairie Club, founded in 1908, encourages the love of nature and participation in outdoor recreation by providing facilities that allow members and guests the opportunity to experience the great outdoors. We foster a sense of community, the appreciation of the beauty of nature, and the importance of environmental conservation through the maintenance and programs of our two permanent camps, Hazelhurst and Spring Grove.

The Club began by organizing hikes into the country as a way for people to escape the crowded innercity of Chicago. Outdoor activities and conservation have been core values for the Prairie Club since its inception. The Prairie Club played a prominent role in the establishment of the Cook County Forest Preserve system the Indiana Dunes State Park and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
