Brooke USA’s mission is to significantly improve the health, welfare and productivity of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people who depend on them for survival worldwide. We are committed to sustainable economic development by reducing poverty, increasing food security, ensuring access to water, providing a means to education and raising basic standards of living through improved equine health and welfare. We accomplish this by raising funds and responsibly directing them to the areas of greatest need. Brooke USA raises funds to support a wide variety of programs for working horses, donkeys and mules to help them become (and remain) healthy and happy now and in the long-term, which also benefits the very poor families who depend on those animals to help them earn a living.

Today on National Legacy Day™, a celebration of people who have shaped our present, Brooke USA celebrates our founder, Dorothy Brooke, a woman of extraordinary moral fortitude and kindness. The defining moment in Dorothy's life came when she arrived in Cairo with her husband, Brigadier Geoffrey Brooke, in 1930. From this moment on, her life was dedicated to the welfare of working horses, donkeys, and mules.

Manuel Albeno is a 68-year-old father of nine, and a grandfather of many more. He is a gentle man who rides his stallion Carmello every day to work his land in Guatemala to support his family. Carmello won first prize in a Brooke-sponsored contest for being the horse that exhibited the best welfare in his community.
