It’s time to reveal the answer to this week’s Trivia Tuesday question as well as this week’s winner! Many of our communities have interesting names including Starbrick. At one time Starbrick was an important industrial suburb of Warren. In answer to our Trivia Tuesday question, Starbrick was named after the Star Brick Company that was first organized in 1899. The bricks produced by this company were in great demand because there was a building spree going on in Warren County in the late nineteenth century going into the early twentieth century. The bricks had a figure of a large star molded into them and were therefore in great demand by many young boys as well, as they melted lead, poured it into the star design with a heavy-duty safety pin to make a replica sheriff’s badge! Sadly, around 1908, the brick company closed most likely because the clay on the land became exhausted, but their bricks can still be found throughout Starbrick and beyond today. We can’t pinpoint the location of the former brick company exactly, but we know that it was near the railroad tracks and possibly in the Whitmire Block Company area.
