Congratulations to the first graduating class of IDOC cadets from the Southern Region Training Center! These new recruits are now on their way to correctional centers throughout southern Illinois. AFSCME members in IDOC know that one of the barriers to increasing hiring has been the travel distances and time away from home required to attend the training academy in Decatur. The regional training academies, intended to address this problem, were sparked by the diligent advocacy of the AFSCME members on the IDOC Standing Committee. (fb)
