Human Outreach Project – HOP
A 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization conceived out of the idea that climbers and trekkers should give back to local communities. Through extensive travel to remote parts of the world, an understanding of different ways of life begins to form as one notices unimaginable poverty, inadequate resources to create change, and the genuine warmth of mountainous people en route to an alpine goal. One-time visitors may reflect on their fortunate position in life and experience a pang of compassion as they know they are in a position to help. If action to that end isn't taken right then and there, often these warm people who so graciously hosted them on their adventure, are forgotten. However, the visitor who continues to return to the same place over and over, who develops relationships with the local people, begins to feel an encompassing compassion. In some, this creates a true call to action. This is exactly what happened to Dean Cardinale as he returned over and over again as a mountain guide to Tanzania, Nepal and Peru. He created relationships, formed bonds and started to care for the people that supported he and his groups. His consideration grew as he reflected on how much he and the people on his treks could give back to these wonderful communities of people. He wanted to start supporting them as much as he felt like they were supporting him and his groups. With this thought, the mission of serving others in the places we visit was born. Our mission revolves around creating relationships with local people in need, finding out what their need is, and offering our support. This manifests in a myriad of ways: paying school tuitions, covering medical treatments, installing Solar Panels, running an orphanage, emergency relief work, providing food to veteran families for the holidays. It is our mission to improve the lives of people who have improved our lives; it is to give back.
