The mission of the Regional Trail Corporation (RTC) is to acquire, develop, manage and maintain appropriate trail and water corridors within southwestern PA in partnership with local trail chapters and councils to promote opportunities for recreation, volunteerism, education, tourism, economic development and historic and environmental conservation. The RTC recognizes that an integrated system of trails will provide a valuable recreational resource and enhance the quality of life in our region. Our vision is to create a system of recreational trails that provides enjoyment to local residents as well as a travel destination to visitors from all around the world. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES To serve as a holding company for land, rights-of-way, buildings, trails and other tangible assets.To support the design, development, construction, safe operation, maintenance, and enhancement of trail and water corridors according to pre-established standards that are economical, environmentally considered, designed to have low impact on our natural resources and wildlife habitats. To foster cooperation and partnering among civic and community groups, trail user groups, and municipal and county governments. To encourage and support the active involvement of local volunteers who are organized into trail chapters and councils and are willing to maintain, monitor, and promote the trails as a true community asset. To promote use of trails throughout the region in cooperation with partner trail organizations and regional tourism promotion agencies.
