Cat Rescue Adoption & Foster Team
Craft's Mission is to reach out to the community, veterinarians and animal welfare organizations to save the lives of homeless, sick and injured cats and kittens. Achieving this by compassionately rescuing, sheltering, fostering, adopting and providing hospice and veterinary services such as spay and neuter, in order to end needless feline euthanasia in our community, with the ultimate objective of having every cat or kitten being wanted and loved.Areas served are Central Oregon where there are only kill shelters, and Eastern Oregon where there are no shelters for cats at all. CRAFT's support covers about half of the State of Oregon.CRAFT does not turn away or euthanize cats or kittens regardless of age, health, color, behavior, where they come from, or other issues that would mean euthanasia in the traditional shelters. At any given time, we have about 80-100 cats in our care, and between 10-20% of those are cats that are very senior or have chronic health issues which mean they will probably remain in our care for the rest of their natural lives. This is a big expense but these animals deserve a loving 'home', and it might be the best home some of them have ever had.CRAFT also has a barn cat program, where feral or semi-feral cats that are not comfortable around people, after receiving all necessary care, are placed in barns and shops where they will receive proper food, water and shelter. We deliver the cats to make sure it is the best possible situation for these cats, who otherwise have few options. They are the first ones put down in traditional shelters.CRAFT has always been volunteer-only, with no paid staff, which means all donations go towards rescuing and caring for the cats. With no paid staff, it also means we have to rely on local veterinarians for care that we cannot provide, and we seldom get this help even at a discount. Our biggest expenditure is about 70% for vet care and medicines. We provide vaccinations, ID chip, spay/neuter, and care that shelters often do not, such as dentals.
