SHI was formed in 2007 to rescue horses from slaughter, abuse and neglect. It's illegal to transport horses to slaughter in Mexico from California. The law is not enforced. We rescue horses at auction and off killer's feedlot. Please help! SHI rescues horses from slaughter, abuse and neglect. Many have been rehabilitated and re homed with an adoption contract into a forever loving home. Un adoptable horses are retired to our sanctuary, or alternative sanctuary is found for them. SHI currently cares for 10 horses. We promote the horse/human relationship by way of a volunteer program for individuals of allages and backgrounds. First responders, ex military, individuals suffering from PTSD, recovering from addiction, those with special needs, all benefit from time spent with the horses.
