After an inspiring day of scientific sessions advancing HIV Cure research, BEAT-HIV Collaboratory members took a short walk to “Wistar North”—our newest scientific space in Philadelphia's thriving University City area. This state-of-the-art facility houses the HIV Cure and Viral Diseases Center, led by Dr. Luis Montaner. The doors to this impressive 25,000 square foot space will open soon, supercharging Wistar's efforts toward an HIV cure agenda. Members enjoyed touring the light-filled, collaborative lab spaces and taking in West Philadelphia's vibrant life science community from a fresh vantage point. (fb)

Multiple sclerosis is the most common demyelinating disorder in young adults, affecting more than a million people in the U.S. alone. Now, Wistar scientists are conducting groundbreaking studies showing how Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) may be both a trigger of M.S. and a driver of its progression. EBV is typically a mild infection. However, it can linger in the body for years and has previously been linked to several rare cancers. Wistar researchers are working to better understand how EBV causes disease and to develop EBV-targeted therapies to offer new treatment options for patients with M.S. Learn more about how our researchers are making progress understanding the effects of EBV. https://bit.ly/4i1vC3c (fb)
