One of the rituals that the Catholic Church prescribes as part of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults is the presentation of the Lord’s Prayer (also known as the Our Father). This prayer is not handed to the person as a written text; rather, it is presented by the oral prayer of the congregation. The presentation is a community action, as is the entire process of being received into the faith community. As Jesus drew together a group of followers, so have Christians throughout the years prayer and acted together to spread the Good News. At the Easter Vigil each year, new members are welcomed into the Body of Christ to not just read the teachings of Jesus but to live them. Let us pray that those who pass through the waters of Baptism at the Easter Vigil will whole-heartedly participate in the Christian community. Divine Wisdom, through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus you taught us how to live as a faith family. In community we gather to pray, to learn and to serve. May those who are received into the Catholic Church this Easter be inspired by the mysteries they experience to participate with their whole hearts and minds and souls in the life of the Church.
