On Saturday, Mountain Rescue conducted their annual mock mission. This year, the scenario was vehicle over the side. This is an increasing situation with the popularity of off roading and UTVs. The team was inserted to the location with their gear via short haul from Mustang 1’s Bell 407. The scenario included anchoring the vehicle, extracting patients, and treating patient injuries, which included lower leg, pelvic, and spinal injuries. Technical rope systems and 400 feet of rope were used to extract rescuers and patients. This was a fantastic mock mission, conducted in very dynamics and technical terrain. In April, Mountain Rescue’s training covered a rescue technique known as a pick off. Pick offs are a technical rescue technique used by the team to gain access to a Subject and connect them to the rescuers rope system on a vertical or near vertical surface.
