It’s our favorite map of the year! Every symbol on our 2024 impact map represents investments made in the well-being of all 32 counties across our region. It shows opportunities created. Needs filled. And steps taken toward a #FlourishingAppalachianOhio – all because of a community of givers who shares our love and commitment to the people and places closest to our hearts. Last week, as we joined our partners at the Community Foundation for Perry County (CFPC) in celebrating the donors and doers who make our work possible, we honored the legacies of just a few champions of Perry County – including FAO’s 2024 Child of Appalachia honoree, Thomas “Tom” H. Johnson III. Our Child of Appalachia award honors those whose stories are exceptional examples of what Appalachian Ohioans can achieve and those whose commitment to Appalachian Ohio has paved the way for remarkable achievements by the people who call our region home. Tom embodied the spirit of the award to its fullest. His impact spanned his native Perry County, the 32-county Appalachian Ohio region and the state. And his generosity and commitment to community continues in his thoughtfully crafted planned gift, which, through CFPC and FAO, will support nine organizations he started or served. Tom taught us one person really can make a difference – in their lifetime and beyond.
